Webster to Host Mental Health Speaker

Webster to Host Mental Health Speaker

Webster University will be hosting national speaker Darrryll Stinson for a talk on mental health on Monday, April 10th at 7 p.m. The speaking event is free and open to all student-athletes and coaches from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and will be held in Grant Gymnasium on the Webster University campus.

Stinson is a speaker, entrepreneur, pastor, and suicide survivor. After playing collegiate football for Central Michigan University Stinson suffered a severe career-ending back injury and attempted to take his own life. After time at the Henry Ford Hospital, he began his journey of discovering his purpose in life.

Throughout this program, you'll hear how fighting chronic depression and selling drugs across campus as a D1 athlete on a historic football team led Darryll to multiple suicide attempts, all because he never felt like he was enough. You'll hear how he overcame mental health stigmas to become a successful entrepreneur and family man.

During his talk, he will discuss developing a system of self-care, developing healthy sources of identity, how weaknesses and insecurities don't diminish your value but reveal your humanity, and how to reframe mental health stigmas.

Stinson is the founder of SecondChanceAthletes.com, a holistic athletic transition service for current, former, and forgotten athletes.

The speaking event has been partially funded through grant money from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the NCAA to help raise awareness of mental health and improve student-athlete wellness. For more information on Darryll Stinson visit www.darryllstinson.com
