SLIAC Players of the Week - March 27

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for March 27, 2023

Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week
  Hunter Strong, Spalding University

Strong delivered nine hits over three games last week, batting .692 while helping the Golden Eagles to a pair of wins. Strong also drove in seven runs and scored twice. He had four doubles and finished with a 1.000 slugging percentage. The sophomore had three hits in all three games and twice had multiple RBI games. 

Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week
  Nathan Garard, Eureka College

Garard picked up a win in a 4-2 game over Principia. The senior worked a complete game, going 9 innings and striking out 14 while allowing no walks. He scattered six hits, allowing one earned run. 

Softball Hitter of the Week
  Mia Boyd, Greenville University

Boyd batted .357 over six games last week, driving in nine and finishing with a .571 on-base percentage. The sophomore drew seven walks and had two doubles and one home run in her five hits on the week. She had hits in five of the games with two multiple RBI games. 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
  Michaela Ferman, Spalding University

Ferman wins her second award this season after throwing a complete game against Mississippi University for Women. The freshman tossed 7 innings while striking out five. 

Men's Golf    
  Cody McKinney, Fontbonne University

McKinney claims the weekly award after a top-five showing at the Great Lakes Invitational. The junior carded a 75, finishing tied for 4th in a field of 52 golfers. He finished five over par, finishing four strokes behind the winner. The Griffins finished 7th as a team with a 328.

Women's Golf    
  Jordan Harris, Spalding University

The sophomore wins her third consecutive weekly award after notching her second win of the spring. Harris carded a three-round score of 231 at the Heritage Hills Collegiate. She lowered her score in each round of the event, wrapping up with a season low round of 74.  

Men's Outdoor Field    
  Tyree Simms, Fontbonne University

Simms had a career-best day at the Minner Invitational, setting four program records. The freshman set Griffin records in the shot put (40'10.5"), discus (120'8"), hammer throw (125'0"), and javelin (131'9"). He currently ranks 2nd in the SLIAC spring season in the javelin, shot put, and discus. 

Men's Outdoor Track    
  CJ Anderson, Greenville University

Opened up the spring season with a pair of 1st place finishes, winning the 100-meter dash and participating as a member of the 4x100 relay team. His time of 10.47 seconds in the 100 is currently the second fastest in D3 and nearly a half second faster than the next closest SLIAC runner.

Women's Outdoor Field    
  Tawny Rodriguez, Greenville University

Rodriguez picked up three top-five finishes at the WashU 5-Way. She took 1st in the shot put with a distance of 41'0" and 2nd place in the discus with a mark of 128'6". She also placed 5th in the hammer throw and currently leads all SLIAC competitors in the shot put and discus this spring.

Women's Outdoor Track    
  Cayden Sharp, Greenville University

Sharp had a pair of 3rd place showings at the WashU 5-Way over the weekend. The senior finished the 100-meter dash in 12.30 seconds and the 100 meter hurdles in 15.12 seconds. Both times lead all conference runners and she is currently 9th in D3 in the 100-meter dash.

  • Skyler Bushey, Westminster College (Baseball) Drove in eight runs in a three-game series against Health Sciences and Pharmacy.
  • Hannah Myers, Westminster College (Track and Field) Set a school record in the triple jump with a mark of 35'8".
  • Colby Shivers, Fontbonne University (Baseball) Hit two home runs and drove in five in helping the Griffins to a win over Mississippi University for Women. 
  • Blake Thebeau, Greenville University (Track and Field) Set a new personal record in the hammer throw, by almost five feet, with a mark of 154'11 and finishing 2nd at the WashU 5-Way.
