The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for May 1, 2023

Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week
  Hunter Strong, Spalding University

Strong delivered 10 runs over four wins for the Golden Eagles last week. He hit .750, going 12-for-16 at the plate, scoring eight times and hitting one home run. The sophomore catcher finished with a .762 on-base percentage and had four multi-hit games including a 4-for-4 performance in the series finale against Blackburn.

Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week
  Gavin Kinworthy, Fontbonne University

Recorded his 8th win of the season, going 6 innings against a Greenville. The sophomore held the Panthers to just three hits, allowing no runs, while striking out 7. He currently leads the SLIAC in both wins and strikeouts.

Softball Hitter of the Week
 

Grayce Marcum, Spalding University

Marcum broke the conference record for triples in a season, with her 11th of the year. She hit .650 last week while driving in nine and hitting two home runs. The sophomore also scored seven times and added one stolen base. She finished the week with a 1.250 slugging percentage and four multi-hit games.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
  Melissa Bernal, Greenville University

Bernal doubled her win total on the season with three victories last week for the Panthers. The sophomore threw 21 innings over four appearances, going 3-0 with a 0.00 earned-run average. She struck out 12 batters and limited opponents to just 13 hits on the week.

  • Quin Adelson, Westminster College (Baseball) Hit three home runs with 8 RBI in the final two games of a series against Eureka.
  • Kaley Adzick, Webster University (Softball) Went 3-0 with a 0.47 earned-run average last week. 
  • Derek Archer, Westminster College (Baseball) Struck out 9 over 5 1/3 innings in a win over Eureka.
  • Gada Bryant, Eureka College (Softball) Drove in five runs in game one of a doubleheader against Fontbonne.
  • Mia Boyd, Greenville University (Softball) Hit .526 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI in eight games last week.
  • Caleb Collins, Spalding University (Baseball) Allowed just one hit over 7 scoreless innings against Blackburn, striking out six.
  • Mike Dunne, Eureka College (Baseball) Hit .600 with a walk-off two-run home run in a 12-10 win over Westminster.
  • Matt Helm, Fontbonne University (Baseball) Went 7-for-13 at the plate in three games against Greenville.
  • Mackenzie Howell, Fontbonne University (Softball) Was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and 4 RBI in a win over Eureka.
  • Deven Shulstad, Webster University (Baseball) Threw a complete game three-hit shutout against Principia, striking out 6 over 7 innings.
  • Ben Swords, Webster University (Baseball) Had seven hits in a three-game sweep of Principia.
  • Paige Thomas, Webster University (Softball) Hit .579 with 3 home runs and 11 RBI in five games last week.
