Fontbonne Announces 2023 Hall of Fame Class

The Fontbonne University Athletic Department is pleased to announce the 2023 Hall of Fame Inductees. 

This year, Mike Golich (Baseball), Ben Greenway (Baseball), Marissa (Simon) Berger (Softball), and Rachel Hanson Palko (Cross Country) will join an already prestigious Hall of Fame Class, which includes an extended list. 

The induction ceremony will be held on Friday, May 19 at 7 p.m. located in the DSAC (Dunham Student Activity Center) Café followed by a cocktail hour with appetizers and drinks. 

"It is with great pleasure that we announce our 2023 Fontbonne Hall of Fame inductees," stated Fontbonne Director of Athletics, Danielle Doerfler. "We are excited to celebrate the great accomplishments of these alumni and alumnae this coming May.  It is always a joy to be able to honor and acknowledge some of the best of Fontbonne Athletics, and these four definitely meet that qualification."

"Our storied baseball, softball, and cross-country programs and their success are due in part to the contributions of these future HOF inductees.  We look forward to seeing all of them in May." 

Mike Golich  

Mike Golich earns a spot in the Fontbonne Hall of Fame after an outstanding career with the baseball team (2016-17 & 2017-18). 

He spent two years at Fontbonne where he was named to the SLIAC Baseball All-Decade Team, 2017 D3baseball.com All-Region Third Team, and 2018 D3baseball.com All-Region Second Team. 

Golich is a two-time All-Conference honoree for the Griffins. In his two seasons, he finished with a .393 clip, totaling 82 runs, 121 hits, 16 doubles, 31 RBI, and 38 stolen bases. 

He sits second in the Fontbonne Record Book for most runs, third and fourth for most hits. He sits in the eighth spot for the most stolen bases and ninth for the highest batting average.  

Ben Greenway 

Ben Greenway earns a place in the Hall of Fame after an impressive four-year career with the Fontbonne Baseball Team. 

Greenway was named to the SLIAC Baseball All-Decade Team, 2016 D3baseball.com All-Region Third Team, and 2017 D3baseball.com All-Region Second Team. 

He appeared in 136 games over his four-year career totaling 179 hits, 83 runs scored, 42 doubles, 11 homers, 114 RBI, a .546 slugging percentage, and a .382 batting average. 

A three-time SLIAC All-Conference selection, Greenway etched his name in the Fontbonne Record Book. He sits second for the most runs, third for the highest batting average and most walks, and sits fifth with the most doubles and most putouts. 

Marissa (Simon) Berger

Marissa (Simon) Berger joins the Fontbonne Hall of Fame after leading the Fontbonne softball team to three straight SLIAC Tournament Champions as well as three SLIAC Regular Season Champions (2011-2014). 

During her stellar three-year career, she helped the team go undefeated in SLIAC play for the first time in school history. The team was ranked third in NCAA Regional Rankings 

As a three-time SLIAC First Team, she also earned 2013 SLIAC Player of the Year, 2011 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year as well as NFCA All-Region selection and NFCA All-American honors. 

She appeared in 96 games, scored 98 runs, totaled 125 hits, 31 hits, 11 home runs, 84 RBIs, a .383 batting average, and a .604 slugging percentage. 

She still holds the school record for most at-bats, sits second for most runs as well ranks in the top five of eight categories. 

Rachel Hanson Palko 

Rachel Hanson Palko joins the Fontbonne Hall of Fame after a remarkable career as a runner. Rachel was the 2007 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year, as well as the 2007 SLIAC Runner of the Year. Palko capped off her extraordinary 2007 season by winning the SLIAC Individual Championship.  

She achieved First Team All-SLIAC all four years and was also named to the 2010 All-Sportsmanship Team. Palko helped the Fontbonne Cross Country team place second in three consecutive seasons, spanning from 2007-2009, and a fourth-place finish for the team in 2010.  

Individually, Rachel placed top-15 four times in the 6k race, finishing as high as third at Hillsboro in 2010. She also placed top-15 seven times in the 5k race, while also finishing second at Principia in 2009. While running for Fontbonne, Palko won SLIAC Athlete of the Week six times.
