Griffins Split with Eureka
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Fontbonne University softball team faced Eureka College this afternoon and took the win on game one of the doubleheader. The Griffins improve to 18-14 on the season and 9-3 in SLIAC play.

Game One
The Griffins defeated Eureka, 11-8.
On the top of the first, the Griffins quickly got things started with Makenzie Howell hitting a three RBI single to bring home Ashley Carrow, Grace Paez, and Patience Vandermierden.
On the top of the second, Holbauch scored one run for Eureka. On the bottom of the second, Paez hit a single to score Brenna Foley. Then, Makenzie Howell hit a triple to center field to bring home Ashley Carrow and Grace Paez to increase the Griffins' lead to 6-1.
On the third, Eureka scored three more runs, but the Griffins quickly answered with another run, 7-4.
Ashley Carrow scored on a single RBI from Ellie Bartlett on the bottom of the fourth.
Jessica Ballard hit a two RBI single to bring home Ellie Bartlett and Makenzie Howell and increase their lead to 10-4.
Eureka scored the final two runs of the game but were unable to come back.
Abby Alonzo started in the circle for the Griffins. She pitched 2.1 innings and allowed eight hits and six runs.
Sam Foppe pitched 4.2 innings and struck out two, while allowing four hits and two runs.
Game Two
The Griffins fell short to Eureka in eight innings, 3-2.
Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when Alissa Ibarra hit a two RBI double to bring home Ellie Bartlett and Jaynanne Roate.
Eureka hit a homer on the top of the seventh to tie the game, 2-2.
After taking the game into an extra inning, Eureka scored the final run of the game to take the win.
Kami Matthews took the loss on the mound. She pitched the complete game, struck out six and allowed eight hits and three runs.

The Griffins travel next to Blackburn on Sunday, Apr. 30 for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
