JACKSONVILLE, Ill.—The Fontbonne University baseball team win streak has reached four after a 5-4 (10 inn.) win over Illinois College.
It was a scoreless game until the third when Colby Shivers led off with a double and Matt Helm walked. After Ty Kueper got hit-by-pitch, Trey Kueper worked a bases loaded walk giving Fontbonne a 1-0 lead.
The Blueboys made a pitching change, but the Griffins tacked on another run off the bat of Bryce McKinnon for the 2-0 lead.
IC got one of those runs back in the third and took a 3-2 lead in the fourth when Griffin King hit a two-run shot.
In the fifth, Trey Kueper led off with a single and advanced to second on a stolen base. Later in the inning, Grant Staffen stepped in and singled to left bringing home Trey Kueper to tie the game.
In the sixth, the Griffins had the bases loaded with two outs and Thomas Purschke hit an infield single allowing Shivers to score giving Fontbonne a 4-3 lead.
The Blueboys tied the game in the eighth and threatened in the ninth with the bases loaded and nobody out. However, Nick Glaser got the final three outs capped off by King striking out swinging to force extra innings.
In the 10th, Ty Kueper led off with a walk and Trey Kueper was hit-by-pitch. After a double play and a passed ball, the Griffins grabbed a 5-4 lead with Purschke reaching base on a Blueboys error allowing Ty Kueper to score.
In the bottom half of the 10th, the Blueboys got the tying run on second with two outs, however Glaser closed the door getting the final batter to ground out for the win.
