Softball heads to SLIAC tournament play with sweep at Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. - The softball team defeated Eureka in two games on Saturday, winning game one 3-0 behind Alison Klaus' shutout and then winning an 11-8 slugfest in game two to conclude their regular season.

Game 1

Klaus improved to 13-5 with a three hit and 10 strikeout performance in game one's win.

The Panthers scored single runs in the second, third, and sixth innings.

Emma Funk provided an RBI single in the second inning, and Jaclyn Belzer produced an RBI double in the third inning to put the Panthers on top 2-0.

Desirae Yost hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the sixth inning to give GU their final run.

Belzer and Sarah Salas each finished 2-for-3 for GU with a run scored.

Mia Boyd, Belzer, and Salas scored GU's runs.

Game 2

The Panthers came from behind to take Saturday's second game after falling behind 3-0 after two innings.

Greenville scored four runs in the third, two in the fourth, and three in the fifth to hold a 9-3 lead.

Eureka added five unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Greenville lead to 9-8, but the Panthers received an RBI double from Belzer and an RBI single from Yost to add insurance.

Melissa Bernal pitched the first six innings to pick up the win, and she handed the ball over to Klaus for a one-inning save.

Boyd Led Greenville with a 3-for-5 game at the plate.

Madi Case, Yost, and Funk all had two hits.

Belzer and Funk each crossed the plate twice.

The Panthers (23-15, 12-6 SLIAC) posted their highest regular season win total since 2014, and they will enter the SLIAC tournament with home game on Tuesday at Panther Field against Westminster or Eureka.
