Softball takes 9-1 conference win over Westminster

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team rallied late for a 9-1 short-game win over Westminster on Tuesday at Panther Field. GU trailed briefly after one half inning and tied the game in the bottom of the first. In the fifth and sixth innings, the Panthers plated four runs in each inning to wrap up the game.

Alison Klaus limited the Blue Jays to two hits and one unearned run over the six inning complete game. She struck out six.

Jaclyn Belzer drove in a run with a first inning base hit, and Andrea Roberts recorded a two-run single in the top of the fifth. Desirae Yost also contributed an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, and the Panthers scored on a wild pitch.

The Panthers needed four runs to end the game, and they received them in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jamey Johnson helped GU with an RBI double, and Mia Boyd added an RBI groundout.

After a later RBI double from Yost, the game finished when Emma Longcor provided an RBI single through the right side to drive in a run and give GU the win.

Belzer finished a perfect three-for-three afternoon with two runs and one RBI.

Roberts and Yost each had two hits, and Madi Case scored three runs.

The Panthers (9-6, 1-0 SLIAC) had Wednesday afternoon's game against Spalding postponed, and they are scheduled to play Franklin on Thursday in Greenville.
