Kinworthy Strikes Out Career-High 15 In Win Over Red Devils

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Behind a dominant pitching performance from Gavin Kinworthy, the Fontbonne University baseball team defeated Eureka 5-2 in its conference opener.
The Griffins had the bases loaded in the bottom of the first and Trey Kueper hit a single to right allowing Colby Shivers to score, who led off the inning with a single.
Kameron Brooks followed with a sacrifice-fly to right plating Matt Helm giving Fontbonne a 2-0 lead.
In the second, the Griffins made it 3-0 when Ty Kueper doubled to right allowing Eric Creech to race on home from first.
That was all Kinworthy need with a sophomore hurler retiring the side through the first four innings, including striking out nine of the 12 batters he faced.
In the sixth, the Griffins extended its lead out to 5-0 with Creech scoring on a balk and Thomas Purschke having an RBI sacrifice-fly.
The Red Devils scored two in the eighth, but David Howard came on in the ninth collecting his third save on the season.
