Men's tennis takes 7-2 win over last season NCAA tournament opponent Illinois Tech

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's tennis team avenged last season's NCAA national tournament loss to Illinois Tech with a 7-2 win on Saturday in Greenville.

The Panthers managed to sweep through the doubles competition before taking four of the six singles matches.

The No. 1 doubles combination of Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez had a closely contested match, but they ultimately came away with an 8-6 win.

The No. 2 doubles tandem of Clark Kent and Luke Motsinger rolled to an 8-2 win, and the No. 3 doubles duo of Jordi Matuhen and Thibaut Tignee picked up an 8-3 win.

In singles, No. 1 Sanchez was pushed to the brink before finishing with a 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 win.

No. 4 Kent bageled his opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

No. 5 Motsinger captured a 6-2, 6-2 triumph, and No. 6 Tignee earned a 6-1, 6-1 win.

No. 2 Rodriguez and No. 3 Matuhen pushed their opponents to a third set before succumbing in their matches.

The Panthers (14-6) host Hendrix on Friday at 4 p.m.
