Softball downs Blackburn in road doubleheader

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The softball team swept a pair of games from Blackburn on the road Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers finished with a 7-1 win in game one and a 10-2 win in game two.

Game 1

The Panthers needed the majority of the game to get their offense kick started but five runs in the top of the seventh broke the game open and gave them the 7-1 win.

GU scored in the fourth inning on an error to move ahead 1-0, and Desirae Yost delivered an RBI singe in the of the fifth to put the Panthers ahead 2-0.

Mia Boyd hit a two run home run during the five run seventh inning.

Alison Klaus pitched all seven innings and gave up one run on five hits with eight strikeouts.

Boyd and Jaclyn Belzer each added two hits, and Boyd scored twice. Belzer drove in three runs.

Game 2

The Panthers scored in the top of the second and allowed the Beavers to take a short-lived 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second before GU scored five times in the top of the third.

The Panthers tacked on two runs in each of the last two innings.

Taylor Weiss produced a 3-for-4 game with one run scored and three RBI.

Andrea Roberts, Belzer, and Boyd all had two hits. Boyd also drove in two runs and Jamey Johnson added two RBI.

GU's pitcher was Andrea Roberts, and she worked all seven innings, permitting two runs on eight hits.

Next Up

The Panthers (14-9, 4-1 SLIAC) host Fontbonne on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader at Panther Field.
