Softball splits Wednesday doubleheader with Augustana

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team hosted Augustana from the CCIW on Wednesday afternoon and split a doubleheader with identical 4-0 scores in each contest.

Game 1

Alison Klaus improved to 4-2 with a seven inning shutout of the Vikings in game one of the doubleheader. Over seven innings in the circle, she struck out six and only allowed five hits.

The Panthers received the only run that they would need in the first inning when Madi Case popped up to the second baseman and the ball was dropped. As the ball got away, Case went to second base. After Case was sacrificed to third by Jamey Johnson, Mia Boyd hit a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Case to score.

The teams matched zeroes for the next three and half innings until the Panthers broke through with a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth.

In the fifth inning, Andrea Roberts reached third base and scored on an RBI groundout by Sarah Salas.

In the sixth inning, Case and Jaclyn Belzer delivered RBI singles that allowed Emma Funk and Case to score, respectively.

Case, Belzer, Roberts, and Funk combined for Greenville's four hits.

Game 2

The Panthers were held to two hits in game two as Augustana completed the second half of the twin bill with a 4-0 win.

Boyd and Belzer recorded GU's hits.

Roberts pitched six innings, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Salas went to the circle for the seventh inning and recorded a scoreless inning.

Augustana benefited from a two-run home run in the fourth inning and two runs in the seventh to gain the win.
