Baseball tops Blackburn 15-6 behind Pennington's two homers

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team kept their SLIAC record perfect and remained in first place with a 15-6 win over Blackburn on Tuesday at Robert E. Smith Field.

Greenville received runs in the first inning and every two innings thereafter in the convincing victory.

GU went ahead 3-0 in the top of the first and expanded the lead to 7-1 in the top of the third.

After Blackburn reduced GU's lead to 7-4, the Panthers scored the next six runs to go on top 13-4. Each team scored two more runs in the game.

Snyder Pennington posted his second four hit effort of the season with two home runs and six RBI. In the last three games, Pennington has gone 7-for-16 with three homers and nine RBI.

Logan Doll provided a 2-for-4 night at the plate with two runs and three RBI while blasting a home run.

Brexton Beard posted a 3-for-4 hitting line with one run and two RBI.

On the mound, the Panthers received 3.1 innings from starter Dylan Boehm who allowed three runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

Ian Wilson provided 2.2 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts.

Cade Buehnerkemper hurled two innings and gave up two unearned runs with three strikeouts, and Tanner Gerdes struck out the side to end the game.

The Panthers (11-10, 5-0 SLIAC) will put their unblemished conference record on the line at Spalding on Friday and Saturday.
