FENTON, Mo. -- The Trine University men's soccer team found themselves in a tight defensive battle and came up just short of the opposition falling to their hosts from Webster (Mo.) University 1-0.
The lone goal of the contest came in the eighth minute of the second half, when the Gorloks found their way into the penalty area and put a cross-goal shot past junior keeper Luis Rodriguez (El Paso, Texas / Bel Air).
The Thunder were on the attack most of the match, holding the ball in the offensive zone for almost 60% of the contest, but were unable to break through the Webster defense. They outshot the opposition 11-7 but the two teams were even with four shots-on-goal apiece.
Sophomore Tyler Murphy (Greenfield, Ind. / Greenfield Central) led the team in chances finishing the contest with five shots including two on goal.
The team falls to 1-1 following the loss. They will look to bounce back tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 4 when they head to face Fanklin College. The match is set to start at 11 a.m.
