Men's tennis moves to 8-4 with two Saturday wins

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's tennis team filled their Saturday schedule with a match at Rose-Hulman and a home match against Franklin. GU started the day with a 7-2 win over Rose-Hulman and shut out Franklin 9-0.

The Panthers opened Saturday's trip to Indiana with wins in all three doubles flights at RHIT.

No. 1 Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez shut out their opponents 8-0.

No. 2 Clark Kent and Luke Motinger earned an 8-4 win, and No. 3 Thibaut Tignee and Jordi Matuhen picked up an 8-3 win.

No. 2 Rodriguez went to 14-12 in his third set tiebreaker before earning the win, and No. 4 Kent came out on top in his third set tiebreaker 10-8.

No. 3 Matuhen rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 win, and No. 5 Motsinger ended up on top 6-2, 6-2.

The Panthers hopped on the people mover and returned home to play a Franklin team who had already taken on Kaskaskia. GU rolled 9-0 over Franklin.

The No. 1 duo of Sanchez and Rodriguez controlled their match 8-0. However the No. 2 team of Kent and Motsinger along with No. 3 pairing of Matuhen and Santiago Jaimes were also winners.

Greenville's winning singles lineup included No. 1 Sanchez, No. 2 Rodriguez, No. 3 Matuhen, No. 4 Kent, No. 5 Motsinger, and No. 6 Jaimes all recording straight sets wins. Sanchez, Kent, and Motsinger only allowed their opponent to win two games.

The Panthers (8-4) will continue their season in Hilton Head, S.C., during their annual spring break trip.
