Men's tennis rolls to 9-0 sweep against Webster

GREENVILLE, Ill - The men's tennis team set up a matchup with Principia for the UMAC's south division championship with their 9-0 victory over Webster on Wednesday afternoon at the Scott J. Burgess Tennis Complex.

The Panthers managed to come up with wins in every flight of singles and doubles, but they faced their most challenging matches in No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles.

The No. 1 doubles pairing of Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez produced an 8-6 win, and the No. 1 singles player Sanchez was pushed to a third set tiebreaker before coming out on top 4-6, 6-1, 10-6.

GU's No. 2 doubles team of Clark Kent and Luke Motsinger and the No. 3 doubles duo of Jordi Matuhen and Thibaut Tignee each came away with 8-1 victories.

No. 2 Rodriguez gave the Panthers a 6-2, 6-1 win, and No. 3 Matuhen rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

No. 4 Clark Kent captured a 6-3, 6-3 win, and his doubles partner No. 5 Motsinger delivered aa 6-0, 6-2 triumph.

No. 6 Tignee managed to win 6-3, 6-1.

The Panthers (17-7, 2-0 UMAC) will travel to Principia for a match on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
