Softball splits doubleheader with conference leader Spalding

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team split a doubleheader against first place Spalding on Thursday afternoon. GU won 6-2 with a five-run sixth inning and dropped game two 5-4.

Game 1

The Panthers went on top 4-2 with a three-run home run from Sarah Salas in the sixth inning and tacked on two insurance runs in the game one victory.

Spalding and Greenville both scored in the second inning with the Panthers receiving a sacrifice fly from Emma Funk.

The Golden Eagles homered in the fourth inning to go on top 2-1.

Salas and Desirae Yost both finished the game with two hits, and Yost scored two runs.

Alison Klaus pitched all seven innings, limiting the Golden Eagles to two runs, one earned, on eight hits and two walks. She struck out six.

Game 2

The Panthers established a 4-0 lead with a run in the second inning and three runs in the third but gave up a total of five runs over the fourth and fifth innings in a game two defeat.

Madi Case and Salas each had two hits for Greenville, and Salas drove in two runs.

Melissa Bernal started in the circle and went four innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hit and two walks.

Andrea Roberts was tagged with the pitching loss in one inning of relief. She permitted one run on two hits.

Klaus closed the game in the circle with two scoreless innings.

Next Up

The Panthers (21-15, 10-6 SLIAC) head to Eureka for their final doubleheader of the regular season on Saturday.
