Foley's Two RBI Single In Seventh Leads Griffins Past Saints
AUBURNDALE, Fla.—The Fontbonne University softball team split its doubleheader today dropping a tough 5-3 (8 inn.) contest against Dominican, but bounced back in a big way closing out the day with a 5-4 thriller over Emmanuel.

AUBURNDALE, Fla.—The Fontbonne University softball team split its doubleheader today dropping a tough 5-3 (8 inn.) contest against Dominican, but bounced back in a big way closing out the day with a 5-4 thriller over Emmanuel.
Game One
Dominican 5, Fontbonne 3 (8 inn.)
The Stars held a 2-0 going into the bottom of the third, but the Griffins made it a 2-1 game when Patience Vandermierden's sacrifice-fly brought home Madelyn Holtmeyer, who led off the inning with a single.
In the fifth, Sam Foppe led off with a single and raced around to score on a defensive error by the Stars. Vandermierden brought home Lilly Jones with another sacrifice-fly giving them a 3-2 lead.
Fontbonne held that lead up until the seventh when the Stars tied it on an RBI single from Delaney McRiley. Dominican tacked on two more in the eighth going on for the win.

Game Two
Fontbonne 5, Emmanuel 4
It remained a scoreless game until the fourth when Emmanuel scored three runs on four hits getting RBI from Christyna Winstead (two) and Taylor Chelak.
The Saints scored another run in the sixth, however, the Griffins got back in the game in the sixth.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Jones tripled to center clearing the bases putting them down 4-3.
In the seventh, with pinch-runner Jaynanne Roate on third and Ashley Carrow on second, Brenna Foley came through with two strike single to center giving Fontbonne a 5-4 lead.
The Saints had runners on second and third with one out, but Abby Alonzo closed the door on a comeback securing the win.
