Blackburn Suffers Senior Day Loss to Eureka

Blackburn lost their doubleheader to Eureka on Sunday afternoon. The Beavers dropped game one 11-2, and were defeated in game two 8-3.

 
Eureka took a 1-0 lead in the second. Chase Ulrich doubled to right field, scoring Nick Rulevish from second. 
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Blackburn tied the game. Consecutive errors from Eureka allowed runners to reach 1st and 2nd base, and after a sacrifice bunt from Mitchell Binder, Andrew Lozano drove in RJ Arredondo to tie the game at 1.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, Isaac Gleaves led off the inning by taking a pitch to the leg. After reaching second, Ian Sullivan drove him in on a single to left field, giving the Beavers a 2-1 lead.
 
Eureka took the lead back in the top of the sixth. An error from Blackburn allowed Karter Hostetlter to reach first, and score Cole Tanner, giving the Red Devils a 3-2 lead. Chase Ulrich drove in another run to make the score 4-2.
 
Eureka extended their lead to 5–2 in the seventh. They plated another run in the eighth inning to extend their lead to 6-2.
 
In the top of the ninth Eureka slammed the door on the Beavers, scoring five runs in the inning and giving Eureka a relaxing 11-2 lead.
 
Blackburn lost by a final of 11-2. Alex Coffman took the loss on the mound for the Beavers, while Mike Dunne recorded the win for Eureka.
 
 
 
In game two, Eureka scored two runs in the top of the second to take the early 2-0 lead. They scored another run in the top of the third, giving them a 3-0 lead.
 
The Beavers plated a run in the bottom of the third, but Eureka responded by scoring again in the top of the fourth. Blackburn's Pedro Medina led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple off the right field wall, followed by Andrew Lozano hitting a sacrifice fly to score him. The Beavers were down 4-2 at the end of the fourth.
 
C.J. Brunaugh drove in a run in the bottom when he singled to center field, scoring Aidan Hamerlinck from second and making the score 4-3.
 
Eureka's Cole Tanner drove in another run in the top of the sixth, giving the Red Devils a 5-3 lead.
 
Blackburn walked in another run in the top of the eighth inning, which made the score 6-3. Another walk allowed Eureka to take a 7-3 lead, which was followed by a single from Brenden Eigenbrod, making the score 8-3.
 
Blackburn couldn't make the comeback and lost the series to Eureka. Jason Hedges took the loss on the mound for the Beavers, while Ryan Bredeson collected the win for Eureka. 
 
The Beavers will have a week to reset before they head to Spalding this weekend to finish out conference play for the 2023 season. Be sure to check back on the baseball schedule page in the event that changes are made.
