Fontbonne Softball Drops Second Game in Series Against Webster

Game 2 Breakdown
The Griffins were coming off a 2-0 win against the Gorlocks in game one of the series yesterday. In the top of the first, Abby Alonzo doubled to left field, but was left stranded. Webster answered back with a hit of their own who was left on base, 0-0.
The second inning played out the same for both teams. Grace Harlin doubled and was thrown out at third trying to stretch the play. Webster left one on base after a batter reached on a walk, 0-0.
Webster got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning with three runs on five hits, leaving two on base, 0-3.
Fontbonne continued to struggle to generate offense in the top of the fourth. Abby Alonzo stayed hot, with a single to center field and advanced to second on a passed ball. Grace Harlin walked. With runners in scoring position, Lilly Jones singled to center field loading up the bases. https://www.fontbonnegriffins.com/sports/sball/2021-22/bios/bartlett_ellie_y5qsEllie Bartlett was called up to pinch hit for Paez but fouled out to leave three on base. The Griffin defense stepped up and shut the Gorlocks down with three up-three down, to hold the score at 0-3.
With time running out for the Griffins, Hannah Miener singled to left field to get it started. Grace Harlin reached on a fielder's choice and was caught stealing at second, to end Fontbonne's chance in the sixth. Reliever pitcher, Hailey Kutz, sat down the side to keep the score at 0-3.
The seventh inning proved to be Fontbonne's last chance at salvaging the game. With two outs, Gracie Morris subbed in to bat but lined out to third to end the inning. The Griffins lose 0-3 and split the series with Webster.
