Women's basketball survives showdown with Principia

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team erased a 12-point second quarter deficit and came from behind to win Saturday's game against Principia in H.J. Long Gymnasium. The GU Panthers were 70-63 winners.

Greenville's Madelyn Stephen had an outstanding game for GU with 24 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

Emily Reinneck was second with 18 points and five rebounds. Carolina Hoffman also posted five rebounds, and Ally Cantrill added four assists.

Reinneck, Cantrill, Hoffman, and Natalie Iberg all contributed two steals.

Principia led 17-8 after the first quarter and carried a 33-30 lead to halftime.

In the third quarter, Greenville outscored Principia 26-20 to take a 56-53 lead and extended their margin to seven by outdistancing Principia 14-10 in the final quarter.

The Panthers (9-4, 2-0) will travel to Webster for a game on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
