Fontbonne Baseball Gets Back On Track With Win Over Thunder
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University baseball team returned home for a three-game stretch opening with a 10-5 win over Wheaton.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University baseball team returned home for a three-game stretch opening with a 10-5 win over Wheaton.
The Griffins wasted no time getting on the board in the first with Matt Helm bringing home Eric Creech and Colby Shivers on a single to left giving Fontbonne the 2-0 lead.
The Thunder plated a run in the third and tacked on three more in the fourth taking a 4-2 lead. However, that advantage was short-lived with Fontbonne scoring five runs on five hits. Creech, Ty Kueper, and Kameron Brooks (two) each brought home at least one RBI in the inning.
The Griffins added another run in the fifth on an RBI groundout from Shivers that scored Thomas Purschke, who led off with a walk.
In the sixth, the Griffins extended its lead out to 9-4 when Grant Staffen hit a two out RBI double to left scoring Ty Kueper.
The Thunder scored a run in the seventh, but Fontbonne got it back in the eighth on an RBI single from Jack Wood giving Fontbonne the 10-5 victory.
