Softball drops two in Iowa

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The softball team wrapped up their trip to Iowa with a doubleheader sweep by Simpson. The Storm topped Greenville 10-1 in five innings in game one and then defeated the Panthers 4-3.

Game 1

Greenville's offense struggled to ignite in game one, and only received a solo home run from Mia Boyd in the five inning defeat.

Boyd was also the Greenville starting pitcher, and she allowed eight runs, seven earned, on six hits and three walks as she pitched three innings.

Melissa Bernal pitched one inning of relief and permitted two runs on two hits.

Game 2

The Panthers received an admirable pitching performance from Alison Klaus in game two and held back the Storm.

Klaus permitted three runs in the second inning and one in the third while allowing six hits. She struck out eight batters in the contest.

Emma Funk homered for the Panthers from the No. 9 position in the batting order and drove in two runs. She went 2-for-2 with a run scored and a walk.

Madi Case, Jamey Johnson, Andrea Roberts, and Jaclyn Belzer all hit safely with Johnson providing a double.

Next Up

The Panthers (5-5) will resume their season on Wednesday with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. against Augustana.
