Baseball drops 10 runs on Illinois Wesleyan in shortened game

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team controlled Friday's home opener against Illinois Wesleyan, handling the Titans 10-0 in a shortened seven-inning game.

The Panthers took an early lead with single runs in the first two innings, and Greenville exploded for five runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach. Greenville tacked on two runs in the fifth inning, and the game ended in the seventh when a wild pitch scored Greenville's 10th run.

Drew Frey was active on the bases all afternoon for the Panthers. He had a leadoff double, reached base safely two other times, and scored three runs.

Landon Mokris was the team's leading producer in the middle of the order. Mokris went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI, including a two run single in the fourth inning.

Snyder Pennington went 1-for-2 with two RBI, and Trent Morgenstern was 1-for-3 with with a run scored and two RBI.

Every Panther in the batting order recorded a hit.

Starting pitcher Luke Fleener had his second stellar outing on the mound. He three six scoreless innings and only allowed four hits. He walked one, hit three batters, and struck out three.

Lucas Teel wrapped up the game on the mound with a scoreless inning despite permitting three walks.

The Panthers (1-2) host Wheaton on Saturday at Noon in a doubleheader at Robert E. Smith Field.
