Fontbonne Baseball Falls Against Stars
AUBURNDALE, Fla.—The Fontbonne University baseball team suffered its second straight loss in Florida on Tuesday morning falling to Dominican, 5-4. The Griffins fall to 6-5, while Dominican goes to 3-4.
AUBURNDALE, Fla.—The Fontbonne University baseball team suffered its second straight loss in Florida on Tuesday morning falling to Dominican, 5-4. The Griffins fall to 6-5, while Dominican goes to 3-4.
In the first, the Griffins grabbed a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice-fly off the bat of Matt Helm. The Stars, though scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to hold a one-run advantage.
In the third, Grant Staffen was hit-by-pitch to start off the inning and advanced to third on Helm's double. Dalton Groves dug in and singled plating the duo for the 3-2 lead.
Dominican answered in the next half inning getting a two out two RBI single from Ryan Schmidt. In the fourth, the Stars pushed its lead out to 5-3.
Fontbonne got one of those runs back in the seventh with Eric Creech leading things off with a double. He later scored on Colby Shivers sacrifice-fly trimming the deficit to 5-4.
Fontbonne got the tying run to second base in both the eighth and ninth innings, but the Stars closed the door on the rally in each inning hanging on for the win.
