Fontbonne Softball Splits Series Against Eutectics

AFFTON, Mo.—The Fontbonne University softball team dropped game one 4-2 against University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy, but were able to split the series taking game two, 8-3.

Game One

UHSP 4, Fontbonne 2

Fontbonne grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second when Ashley Carrow scored from third on a passed ball. In the third, Brenna Foley made it 2-0 with a single to center allowing Patience Vandermierden, who reached base on a single to score.

In the bottom half, though the Eutectics scored four runs on five hits taking a two-run lead. From there, the Griffins were held to three hits as the Eutectics went on for the win.

Brenna Folley: 1-for-2, RBI

Hailey Kutz: 4.0 IP, 8K's

Game Two

Fontbonne 8, UHSP 3

The Griffins once again got on the board early in the second with Sam Foppe hitting a single that scored Foley. Kassidy Chrisco followed with a sacrifice-fly that allowed Alaina Hoptop to touch home after she doubled earlier in the inning.

Patience Vandermierden led off in the third with a double and she scored on Grace Paez's single. Later in the inning the Griffins made it 4-0 on an RBI single from Hotop that brought home Paez.

In the fourth, with two outs Foley came through with a triple to right scoring Paez and Carrow. Hotop tallied her second RBI of the game with a single to center.

The Eutectics got on the board scoring two in the fourth, but Fontbonne got an RBI single from Vandermierden in the fifth allowing them to go on for the five-run win.
