Softball comes up short in doubleheader sweep at Central

PELLA, Iowa - The softball team received two losses in Friday's doubleheader at Central. The Panthers came from behind and were tied 3-3 with Central in the seventh inning of game one before the Dutch scored a run in the final inning to win, and then the Panthers were shutout 8-0 in a six inning version of game two.

Game 1

The Panthers gave up single runs to Central in the first, third, fifth, and seventh innings as they dropped the opener 4-3.

The Panthers received a three-run, bases clearing double from Mia Boyd in the top of the sixth to tie the score at 3-all heading into the final inning.

Greenville walked the leadoff batter in the final inning, and she eventually scored following a groundout, an error, and a game-winning single.

In addition to Boyd's three-run double, the Panthers received a hit from Madi Case and Andrea Roberts.

Roberts pitched into the seventh inning, and allowed four runs, two earned, on three hits and seven walks in the complete game loss.

Game 2

The second game of the doubleheader went Central's way as the Dutch finished with a six inning 8-0 win over the Panthers.

Central's good fortune began with a run in the second inning and two in the third as they reached Greenville starting pitcher Alison Klaus for three earned runs on one hit and four walks.

The Dutch added their final five runs with three in the fifth inning and two in the sixth.

Sarah Salas relieved Klaus after four innings and surrendered five runs, three earned, on two hits and five walks.

For the second straight game, Greenville received one hit each from Case, Boyd, and Roberts.

The Panthers (5-3) travel to Simpson in Indianola, Iowa, for a doubleheader on Saturday.
