Fontbonne Softball Struggles to Keep Up with Hard-Hitting Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Fontbonne University softball team drops both games against the Illinois College Lady Blue as the Griffins fall to 3-9 on the season.
Game 1 Breakdown
The Lady Blue leapt onto the board early with three runs in the first and held the Griffins silent through six innings with dominant pitching and defense. Michaela Mason singled to center field in the top of the second but was caught up in a double play to end their scoring chances. Lilly Jones singled in the top of third but was left on base with a ground out to shortstop. The Lady Blue added two more runs in the third. Lilly Jones got on base again in the top of the sixth with a bunt. Lexi Becker reached on a fielder's choice but was stranded with a line out to third to end the Griffin's scoring opportunity. Illinois College sealed the deal in the bottom of the sixth, adding three more runs on four hits.

Game 2 Breakdown
The Griffins bats started to heat up in game two but couldn't quite keep up with the Lady Blue.
Lilly Jones stayed hot by reaching base in the top of the first and advancing to third on stolen bases. Ellie Bartlett had a ground out RBI, scoring Jones, 1-0. The Illinois College bats were still hot though from game one and they racked up four runs early with six hits including a Claudia Adam triple to right field, 1-4.
Trying to dig themselves out of an early hole, Fontbonne scored another run in the top of the third. Logan Darrow singled to center field. Lilly Jones singled to third base. Runners advanced on a wild pitch and Darrow scored on a Lexi Becker ground out to second base. Griffins earn two hits but strand a runner, 2-5.
The Griffins started to string some hits together in the top of fourth. Hannah Miener started it out with a single to third base. Allysa Ibarra singled to shortstop. With runners on first and second, Grace Paez singled to center field. Patience Vandermierden earned an RBI with a ground out to shortstop, scoring Hannah Miener. Fontbonne left 3 on base with their best scoring opportunity of the game, 3-5.
Illinois College added another run in the fourth and fifth innings, putting the win out of reach for the Griffins with a score of 7-3.

Hannah Miener: 1-for-3 with 1 run

The Griffins will now head to Pella, Iowa to face Central College on Sunday, March 27th at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM CST.
