Softball drops both ends of doubleheader against Franklin

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader against Franklin on Thursday afternoon at Panther Field. GU dropped the first game 6-2 when they gave up five runs in the final inning and then lost game two 5-4 after mounting a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh.

Game 1

Greenville led 2-1 after the first inning and carried the lead into the top of the seventh before Franklin scored five times to capture a 6-2 win.

Jaclyn Belzer finished 2-for-2 for GU with one RBI, and Emma Funk had a 2-for-3 hitting line.

The Panthers also received hits from Madi Case, Jamey Johnson, Mia Boyd, Desirae Yost, and Emma Deters.

Alison Klaus pitched all seven innings and held Franklin in check until the Grizzlies' rally in the top of the seventh. She wrapped up the game with 10 hits allowed and 10 strikeouts.

Game 2

The Panthers led 1-0 after one inning and 2-0 after three innings, but Franklin came back with five runs in the top of the fourth and held the lead despite allowing the Panthers to score two runs in their final turn at bat.

Case and Boyd each posted three hits and two RBI for GU.

Erin Toole was 2-for-3 hitting seventh in the order.

Andrea Roberts pitched the first four innings and gave up five runs on six hits. Melissa Bernal closed the game with three scoreless innings.

Next Up

The Panthers (9-8) go to Webster on Saturday for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
