Softball tops Knox in Thursday doubleheader

GALESBURG, Ill. - The softball team received a five inning shutout from Alison Klaus in a 9-0 game one win and collected a 4-1 victory in game two as the Panthers swept the Knox Prairie Fire in a Thursday afternoon road doubleheader.

Game 1

Klaus secured her third shutout of the season in the Panthers game one win. Over five innings, she struck out eight and only allowed five baserunners with three hits and two walks.

Greenville scored in two of the five innings. GU collected four runs in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Madi Case and a three-run home run from Mia Boyd.

In the fifth inning, the Panthers added five runs. Case added a sacrifice fly before Jaclyn Belzer's launched her first home run of the season. Sarah Salas later posted an RBI single.

Case and Belzer both finished 2-for-2 at the plate. Case totaled two RBI and a run while Belzer scored twice with one RBI.

Boyd posted two runs scored.

Game 2

Melissa Bernal held Knox to one run on four hits over seven innings in lifting Greenville to a 4-1 game two win.

The Panthers scored three of their runs in the third inning with RBI singles from Desirae Yost and Salas and an RBI double from Emma Longcor.

In the fifth inning, Kaitlyn Carlson drove in a run with a fielder's choice to second base.

The Panthers had three players finish with two hits in the game - Yost, Salas, and Longcor.

GU received runs from Belzer, Boyd, Yost, and Salas.

Next Up

The Panthers (12-9) go to Westminster for a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
