Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Saturday Play at IWU

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The CUW women's volleyball team picked up a pair of victories at the Illinois Wesleyan Classic. The Falcons opened the day with a 3-1 victory over Rose-Hulman and closed with a 3-0 victory over Greenville to improve to 4-3 on the year.

After trailing early in the first set, CUW was able to retake the lead and close the set on a 12-5 run. Senior Gabriella Kaebisch (Paddock Lake, Wis.) had five kills in the set.

The Falcons led wire-to-wire in the second set and took the set 25-17.

Rose-Hulman stayed alive with a 25-22 victory in the third set.

The Falcons soared once again in the fourth set and never trailed. A kill from Gabriella Kaebisch pushed the lead to 24-9.

The Blue and White picked up the 25-17, 25-17, 25-25, 25-14 victory to start the day.

Sophomore Lauren Shroba (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and junior Maycee Karpfinger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) led the match with 11 kills.

Senior Sierra Lee (Kenosha, Wis.) had 31 assists in the victory.

Senior Jenna Chaussee (Chilton, Wis.) was once again amazing behind the line with six service aces. She also led the CUW effort with 13 digs.

Senior Erika Natzke (Morton Grove, Ill.) and Sierra Lee both finished with double-double performances with 13 assists and 10 digs and 31 assists and 10 digs respectively.

The Falcons made quick work of Greenville in the send match of the day with a 25-18, 25-7, 25-21 victory.

The birds used a 9-3 in the first set to get some separation from the Panthers.

The Falcons cruised to a 25-7 victory in the second set. The seven points are the fewest CUW has allowed in the season. Maycee Karpfinger had six kills and a service ace for seven points of her own.

The Panthers put up a fight in the third set but it was not enough.

Senior Sophia Collins (Lake Mills, Wis.) soared against Greenville with a match-high 12 kills. Sierra Lee led the offense with 20 kills, three more than Natzke.

Maycee Karpfinger and Sophia Collins were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Falcons open NACC play on Wednesday against Edgewood.
