Baseball honors nine seniors between games of Saturday's doubleheader

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team wrapped up the regular season by honoring seniors Blake Duncan, Drew Frey, Caleb Norton, Jaxen Gibson, Braden Maltbie, Craig Oertel, Logan Garrick, Landon Mokris, and Lucas Harmon in senior day activities. The Panthers dropped the doubleheader to Webster with 14-2 and 11-3 decisions.

Game 1

The Panthers fell in game one in a seven inning shortened contest.

After George Schneider tied the game at 1-1 with a solo home run in the first inning, the Panthers gave up three runs in the top of the second inning as Webster took the lead for the rest of the contest.

The Panthers received a run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single from Snyder Pennington.

Schneider scored both GU runs and walked twice in the game.

Jacob Sutton Led Greenville with two hits in three at bats.

Starting pitcher Maltbie pitched 3.1 innings and allowed five runs on five hits.

Gibson gave up three runs in 1.2 innings, and Cade Buehnerkemper permitted six runs in 1.2 innings.

Oertel retired the only batter he faced.

Game 2

The Panthers received a solid start from Lucas Teel on the mound as he limited the Gorloks to four runs on five hits over six plus innings, but the Greenville bullpen gave up eight runs.

Ian Wilson allowed one run after he walked the only batter he faced, and Dylan Boehm surrendered four runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Jacob Hammer threw 1.1 scoreless innings, and Terry Millikan allowed two runs on two hits in one-third of an inning.

Oertel pitched two-thirds of an inning without allowing a run.

SLIAC player of the year candidate Mokris went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

Frey had one hit and two RBI, and Pennington, Brexton Beard, Duncan, and Tanner Gerdes added one hit each.

Next Up

The Panthers (18-20, 11-10 SLIAC) will head to Westminster for the first round of the SLIAC tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
