Jones Walks It Off In Win Over Dutch

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.—The Fontbonne University softball team earned its first walk-off win on the year after defeating Hope, 4-3 (9 inn.).

It was a scoreless game until the second when Grace Paez hit an RBI single plating Ashley Carrow, who reached base on an error to lead off the inning.

Hope plated two runs in the fourth, but the Griffins answered back in the sixth when Abby Alonzo plated two on a single to left giving Fontbonne a 3-2 lead.

The Dutch stayed alive pushing a run across in the seventh to tie the game. After a scoreless eighth, the Griffins had a chance to win it in the ninth.

Brenna Foley started the inning on second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Kami Matthews. Two batters later, Lilly Jones came through with an infield single scoring Foley for the walk-off winner.
