Conway, Ark. - The Centenary softball team split a pair of games on Saturday in the 2023 Warrior Spring Fling hosted by Hendrix College, falling to the host Warriors 6-4 and blasting Westminster (Mo.) 20-7 in record-setting fashion in five innings at Warrior Softball Field.

The Ladies set division III era (2012-present) single game records for runs (20) and hits (21) in the victory over Westminster in their second game on Saturday. The win was highlighted by senior LF Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) hitting for the cycle as she went 5-5 with eight RBI, setting D3 era single-game individual records for hits and RBI. She also tied the record for runs (4) and hit her second-career home run.

Game one recap: Hendrix 6 Centenary 4

Each team scored a pair of runs in the first inning and then the Ladies scored single runs in the second and fifth innings to take a 4-2 lead, but the Warriors tied the game with two in the bottom of the fifth and scored twice more in the sixth to seal the comeback win.

The Ladies finished with 10 hits, two walks, only two strikeouts, and left nine on base. The Warriors had nine hits, drew one walk, struck out four times, and left five on while committing two errors. Freshman 2B Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) led the way on offense as she went 3-4 with a run scored and Patridge finished 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore C Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) was 2-4 with a run scored.

Senior CF Mallory Stout (Trinity, Texas), junior 1B Isabelle Dominguez (Newark, Calif.), and freshman DP Abigail Hodgson (Georgetown, Texas) each had one hit. Sophomore 3B Alyssa Akers (Maurice, La.) went 0-3 but had an RBI groundout which scored the Ladies' first run of the game. Sophomore SS Brooke Sandefur (Baton Rouge, La.) went 0-2 but drew a walk and stole a base.

Sophomore P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) made her second start of the season and pitched another complete game, allowing six runs, all earned, and nine hits in her six innings of work with one walk and four strikeouts to fall to 0-2 on the young season. She allowed one home run, hit one batter, and threw 90 pitches, 61, for strikes to the 29 batters she faced.

Makayla Ragland (1-0) went he distance for the Warriors and allowed four runs, three earned, on 10 hits with two walks and two K's in seven innings of work. She faced 34 batters and threw 118 pitches, 85 for strikes.

SS Grace Bryant went 1-3 with a game-high three RBI and a run scored to lead the Warriors to the win. Her two-run home run in the bottom of the first tied the game at 2-2. Aubrey Lee went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored from the leadoff spot and the first six batters in the Hendrix lineup combined to go 8-20 with five RBI and four runs scored.

Patridge ripped a one-out triple in the top of the first and an Akers groundout scored her. Rivero followed with a double and after a single by Stokes, Stout delivered and infield single to score Rivero and make it 2-0. Bryant's one-out homer tied it in the bottom half and a two-out RBI double by Patridge scored Dominguez for a 3-2 Ladies' lead in the top of the second.

Following two scoreless innings, Hodgson plated Stokes on an RBI single with two outs to extend the Centenary lead to 4-2. Two RBI ground outs by the Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. The Ladies went down in order in the top of the sixth and a pair of runs with two outs gave the Warriors a 6-4 lead needing just three outs for the win.

Stokes singled with two outs in the seventh and advanced to second on a passed ball. Stout then walked and went to second on an error by the catcher as Stokes went to third, putting the tying runs in scoring position with two outs. Ragland, though, got Hodgson to pop out to end the game.

Game two recap: Centenary 20 Westminster (Mo.) 7 (5 inn.)

The Ladies rebounded from a tough loss earlier in the day to post the record-setting beatdown over the Blue Jays, setting division III era (2012-present) single game records for runs (20) and hits (21) in the victory.

Patridge, after a 2-4 effort with an RBI, a run scored, and two extra-base hits in the earlier game, hit for the cycle against the Blue Jays as she went 5-5 with a whopping eight RBI and scored four runs. She set the D3 era single-game individual record for hits and RBI and tied the record for runs. She finished the day an incredible 7-9 with nine RBI, five runs scored, a home run, three doubles, and two triples.

She blasted a two-run homer in the first, singled to lead off the second, hit a bases-loaded, 3-RBI double later in the second inning, a bases-loaded, 3-RBI triple in the third, and a double in the fifth.

The Ladies erupted for five runs in the top of the first, and after the Blue Jays cut into the lead with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, Centenary responded immediately with seven more runs in the second to take a 12-4 lead. Westminster scored one in the bottom of the second, but the Ladies hung six more runs on the board in the top of the third for an 18-5 lead. Each team scored a pair of runs in the fifth for the final 20-7 margin.

The Blue Jays finished with more errors (7) than hits (6), left four on base, and struck out once. The Ladies played error-free ball, drew two walks, and did not strike out in 39 at-bats. Every Centenary batter in the starting lineup recorded at least one hit and seven players recorded multi-hit games. Akers finished with a single-game career-high four hits as she went 4-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Junior RF Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.) went 2-4 with two RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base and Rivero finished 2-4 with a 2-run homer, three RBI, and four runs scored. Stokes went 2-3 with an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base and Stout was 1-4 with a walk and a run scored. Freshman 3B Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas) started at catcher and had a big game as she went 1-5 with two RBI and scored a run. Sophomore 1B Kaitlyn Dickey (Church Point, La.) also had an impressive game as she was 2-5 with two RBI and two runs scored and junior SS Mackenzie Clark (Upland, Calif.) made her first start of the season and made the most of it as she finished 2-3 with two runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base.

Freshman Alexis Roach (Pineville, La.) started and pitched the first two innings as she allowed four runs, all earned, on just one hit with four walks and one K. She faced 11 batters and threw 41 pitches (17 strikes). Freshman Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) relieved Roach and picked up her first collegiate win as she went the final three innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits with a pair of walks and no K's. She threw 28 pitches, 17 for strikes, and faced 15 batters.

Westminster's Erin Carr (0-1) suffered the loss as she started and was tagged for 12 runs, but just four earned, and 10 hits in 1.2 innings of work. She walked two, did not strike out a batter, and allowed two home runs. She faced 20 batters, hitting a pair, and threw 62 pitches, 32 for strikes. Caroline Bentley came in for Carr and pitched the final 3.1 innings and allowed eight runs (one earned) and 11 hits. She did not walk or strike out a batter and faced 24 total batters, throwing 46 pitches (34 strikes). SS Tatum Bradshaw paced the Blue Jays' offense as she went 1-2 with two RBI and a run scored.

The Ladies and Blue Jays will meet again on Sunday at 10 a.m. Centenary then completes the weekend with another game against the host Warriors at 3 p.m.
