Softball splits Saturday doubleheader against Fontbonne

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team met Fontbonne in an early conference matchup between two of the favorites. The Griffins topped GU 3-2 in game one, but Melissa Bernal shut out Fontbonne in an 8-0, six inning win.

Game 1

Fontbonne took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added the winning run in the fifth inning of a 3-2 decision on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers scored once in the second and third innings to tie the game.

Emma Longcor provided an RBI double in the second inning, and Mia Boyd had an RBI single in the third inning.

Alison Klaus pitched a complete game and gave up three runs on six hits and two walks with 12 strikeouts.

Game 2

Greenville scored in every inning but the third in a six inning 8-0 win in game two.

Bernal pitched a shutout and limited Fontbonne to five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Klaus, Jaclyn Belzer, Desirae Yost, Andrea Roberts, and Emma Funk all had two hits.

Boyd scored twice.

Next Up

The Panthers (15-10, 5-2 SLIAC) travel to Westminster for a doubleheader on Monday at 4 p.m.
