Eureka, Principia; Quarterfinals Winners

After a season that saw plenty of twists, in the end, it will be the only four teams with winning conference records making up the final four of the 2023 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball tournament. 

Quarterfinals - #3 Eureka College defeated #6 Greenville University, 89-71

Eureka is headed to its second straight SLIAC semifinals after a dominating defensive showing in the first half of its quarterfinals game against Greenville. Eureka limited the visiting Panthers to just 20 first-half points on 20-percent shooting and held them 0-for-13 from three-point range. Meanwhile, the Eureka offense did not miss a beat, putting up 49 points in the first 20 minutes. Eureka would open up a 32-point lead early in the second half before cruising to victory. Four different Red Devils reached double figures in scoring with Peewee Brown finishing with a game-high 26 points. Greenville's Jarred Johnson led his team with 18 points off the bench. 

Quarterfinals - #4 Principia College defeated #5 Spalding University, 62-51

Principia, playing its first-ever home postseason game in program history, pulled away from visiting Spalding to secure its first tournament win since 1994 and just the second in program history. The game was a tight defensive battle throughout, with six ties and two lead changes. However, the lead for Spalding came early, at 6-4. Jaquan Adams hit back-to-back jumpers to give Principia the lead, one they would not relinquish. Spalding hung around for the majority of the game and was down just 47-44 with 6:31 left in the game but then the Panthers opened the game up with a 15-4 run over the next six minutes. Principia was led by Jaquan Adams with 21 points while Clark Davidson finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Spalding was paced by Jacoby Johnson with 19 points while Anthony Dillard added 15 points and 11 rebounds.

What's Next
The tournament continues on Friday with the semifinal games with both games will be held on the campus of Webster University. The first game of the evening will be #2 Fontbonne University against #3 Eureka College at 5:30 p.m. while top seed Webster University will face #4 Principia College at 7:30 p.m.
