Griffins Season Closes Against Wisconsin-Oshkosh

The Fontbonne University men's basketball team had its 2022-23 season close with an 86-58 loss to #12 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. 

For the first five minutes, Fontbonne stayed with the host Titans, down just two points. After the Titans jumped to an 8-2 lead the Griffins answered with back-to-back jumpers; by Caden Clark and Brent Wagner. A jumper by Wagner at the 14:40 mark made the score 12-10 but the Titans answered with a 7-0 run to take control and bring a 45-27 lead into the break.

Fontbonne was never able to get back within striking distance as they were held to 36 percent shooting in the game including going just 2-of-18 from three-point range. The Titans also held a 47-29 edge in rebounding while shooting 48 percent from the field and going 12-of-28 from threes. 

 Fontbonne was led by Brent Wagner with 11 points while Elijah Rice added 8 points and 6 rebounds.

The Griffins finish their season 16-12 overall. Tonight's game was the program's fifth national tournament appearance and first since 2009. In three of their last four NCAA tournament games, the Griffins equaled tonight's point total of 58 points.
