Principia and Fontbonne Move On

The favorites held true in the 2022 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament quarterfinals although it was not without its drama. Principia College, the #3 seed, moved on after a 0-0 draw against #6 Eureka College, advancing 4-3 in penalty kicks. Earlier in the day it was #4 Fontbonne University winning 2-1 over #5 Westminster College.

Quarterfinal - #4 Fontbonne defeated #5 Westminster, 2-1 BOX SCORE
Fontbonne found the back of the net early when Julian Tilford scored in the 12th minute after a throw-in from the side by Ian Steinkamp. The Blue Jays continued to pressure Fontbonne however, outshooting them 11-6 in the first 45. Their persistence paid off when Travis Bieg scored in the 59th minute. But just three minutes later a foul was called in the box, allowing Joe Noah to convert the penalty kick and put the Griffins up 2-1. Dominic Haggard made nine saves in the victory.

Quarterfinal - #3 Principia tied #6 Eureka, 0-0 BOX SCORE
After playing the Red Devils to a draw just three days ago, Principia and Eureka once again locked up in a scoreless match. Despite no scoring for 110 minutes, there was still plenty of action with Eureka keeper Brayton Strawkas coming up with 11 saves and Principia keeper Torben Rehnert making seven saves. The scoreless game was decided by penalty kicks. Both teams made their first three attempts but E.G. Pierce had the decisive score while Rehnert stopped the final two attempts in net for the Panthers.
