Murvin Joins Elite Company, Tops All-Conference Team
Aamahn Murvin joins an elite group of players in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history as he takes home his third consecutive Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year award. Murvin is just the third player in conference history to win three player of the year awards; joining Pedro Rodriguez (MacMurray College, 1991-93) and Jason Schellman (Fontbonne University, 2002-04).
Murvin, a senior, led all conference players with 13 goals and 31 points in his 13 conference games. He also added five assists, which ranked second in the league. Murvin was a constant force on the attack, leading the league with 47 shots and netting a league-best four game-winning goals. Overall this season he tallied 14 goals and 6 assists for 34 points.
Joining Murvin with top player honors is his teammate, Tavis Cameron as the SLIAC Defensive Player of the Year. Cameron, a senior defender, was part of a Gorlok defense that allowed just eight goals during conference play, recording nine shutouts in 14 games. With Cameron leading the way, the Gorloks held conference opponents to just 9.2 shots per game. Overall the Gorloks have recorded 12 shutouts this season, ranking in the top four in conference single-season history.
Wizzy Afrani becomes just the second Principia College player in program history to be named the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year, joining Kaleb Keller (2017). Afrani, a freshman forward, tallied one goal and one assist for three total points in 13 conference games. He ranked 8th in the league with 30 shots and recorded one game-winning goal.
The 2022 SLIAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year once again goes to Webster University head coach Mike Siener. Siener wins his third straight award after guiding the Gorloks to a third straight regular season title. The Gorloks were 11-1-2 in SLIAC play this fall, marking just the second time the program has reached double-digit conference wins in back-to-back seasons. This marks the fifth time in his career that Siener has been named Coach of the Year, the second most in conference history.
The final top award also goes to Webster University with the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship award. League coaches chose the Gorloks as this year's winners that best represented the conference's ideals of sportsmanship on and off the field this season.
