Greenville, Webster Meet for Men's Soccer Championship

The seedings held true for the 2022 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament with no upsets in the first four games, leading to a championship game between #1 seed Webster University and #2 seed Greenville University.

Semifinals - #2 Greenville defeated #3 Principia, 1-0 BOX SCORE
The Principia defense kept high-scoring Greenville at bay for the majority of Thursday's game but in the end, one goal was all that was needed. Principia had allowed just one goal in its previous six games including back-to-back scoreless draws entering the night. Greenville had its chances, outshooting Principia 9-1 in the first 45-minutes. Their pressure finally paid off in the 61st minute when Napoleon Urquidi put a head on a loose ball in the box past the Blue Jay keeper. Greenville limited Principia to just five shots in the game as Hiram Cruz recorded the shutout win.

Semifinals - #1Webster defeated #4 Fontbonne, 3-2 BOX SCORE
It was a game of momentum between Fontbonne and Webster with Fontbonne taking control early. The Griffins found the back of the net in the 19th minute when Brandon O'Dell struck from just inside the top of the box after a tap pass from Julian Tilford. O'Dell would strike again less than 20-minutes later to put Fontbonne up 2-0. This time it was on a set piece with O'Dell putting the shot over a six-man wall and into the upper left of the net. Despite getting 13 shots off in the first half the Gorloks were unable to get many strong chances, putting just three of them on net. The Gorloks finally got the opportunity they had been looking for in the 60th minute when Aamahn Murvin cut across the top of the box with the ball and drew a foul, setting up a penalty kick. That allowed Noah Abraham to step to the ball unguarded, pushing the ball inside the left post for the Gorloks' first goal. Murvin played a role in the Gorloks' second goal as well, setting up Nick Thomas in the 76th minute. Murvin stepped in front a defender's pass, leading to a quick break, then fed the ball over to an open Thomas. In a game of bounces, the Gorloks benefited from one on the third goal when a corner kick glanced off a Griffin leg and into the net. The three unanswered goals mark the first time the Gorloks have won a game after trailing by two goals since September 19, 2006, against Millikin.
