SLIAC Hall of Famer, Killen Passes

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference lost part of its living history last week with the passing of Hall of Famer Bill Killen. Killen passed away on December 20th at the age of 81. Inducted into the SLIAC Hall of Fame in 2016, Killen served as the head coach of the MacMurray College men's soccer program from 1985-96 and 1998-2006.

He totaled 183 wins, capturing five SLIAC championships, and leading the Highlanders to three straight NCAA Division III national tournaments from 1990-92. He was a two-time SLIAC Coach of the Year and the Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 1991. He coached 50 All-Conference players including four SLIAC Player of Year award winners, 15 All-Region players, and one All-American.

Killen was highly involved in the United State Soccer Federation, serving as a staff coach for more than 20 years, and was Chairman of Development and Clinics for the National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association and Intercollegiate Soccer Athletic Association. Killen also had coaching stints with UNC-Chapel Hill, CCNY, Orange County (N.Y.), Akron University, Yale University, and Old Dominion University, and an assistant coach position with Westminster College.

Killen played collegiate soccer at West Chester, helping his team to a championship in 1961 and earning Tournament MVP honors. He was named an All-American in 1962, earned a spot on Team USA for the 1962 Pan Am Games, and served as an alternate on the 1964 Olympic Team.
