Panthers Open With First Place Finish

On the opening day of the 2022-23 winter indoor track and field season, the men's team finished on top as the leading team with 87.33 points.

Two GU sprinters broke the indoor sprint record of GU's most decorated track and field All-American Bruce Gray in the 60-meter dash.

Carson Rantanen and CJ Anderson are currently ranked second and third in the country for NCAA Division III in the 60-meter dash.

Rantanen ran 6.74 seconds, and Anderson was close in 6.76. The previous record stood at 6.77 seconds by multiple-time NCAA All-American Bruce Gray in 2014. The time is also a new SLIAC Indoor Track and Field record in the 60-meter dash. He breaks the previous mark held by Jacob Ridenhour of Webster, set in 2021.

In other notable feats, Wes Kyle finished with a winning jump of 14'9" in the pole vault, also setting a new SLIAC Indoor mark; besting the mark of 14'7.5" set by Dylan Webster of Greenville last year.

Nate Brown also won his event with a mark of 57'5.75" in the weight throw, breaking his own previous conference record by 2.5 inches set back in 2020.

The Panthers posted 19 NCCAA qualifying marks over the course of the meet.

The Panthers will return to action in the new year with a meet at Illinois College on Jan. 21.
