Barron Takes Over Principia Cross Country Programs

Director of Athletics Operations Nick Barron will coach the men's and women's cross-country team this fall! Barron has assisted the men's soccer program for the past three years and is excited to be directing his own program.

"Principia cross country has a long history of success," Barron says. "I'm honored to be in a position where I can build on this strong foundation and create more opportunities for Principia student-athletes."

Athletics Director Ann Pierson sees a great opportunity ahead with Barron at the helm. "He is a dynamic coach who connects well with students," Pierson says "I expect this program will thrive under his leadership."

Running has been an important part of Barron's life for a long time, and he says some of the most important lessons he has learned were the result of running. Barron attended Bates College where he competed in indoor and outdoor track in the winter and spring, and he played soccer in the fall. During his time there he competed at the NCAA National Tournament on three separate occasions. He ran the 1200 leg of the distance medley relay team that placed 3rd at Indoor Nationals in 2012, earning All-American honors. After college, Barron continued to train and compete in road and trail races. His favorite race was a 56k ultra-marathon in Cape Town, the Republic of South Africa, which started at the Indian Ocean and ended at the Atlantic Ocean.

"I'm excited to share what I've learned with the incredible student-athletes on the cross-country team, and I'm even more excited about what I will learn from them," Barron says.
