Knittig Named Griffins Head Coach

Fontbonne University Director of Athletics Danielle Doerfler is pleased to announce the hiring of Roni Knittig as the new head softball coach.

"It's with great pleasure I can officially announce the promotion of Roni Knittig as our next head softball coach at Fontbonne University," said Doerfler. "Roni has been involved with our softball program for the last few years and has made a valuable impression upon our current student-athletes and softball staff."

She continued, "We wanted to continue the success of our softball program, both on and off the field, and we felt that Roni was the best person to carry that tradition forward. As a current assistant coach, Missouri native and with her connections in and around St. Louis, we know Roni will continue to recruit and retain solid student-athletes. Welcome to Coach Roni Knittig and Go Griffins!"

Knittig enters her fourth season at Fontbonne and she'll look to guide the Griffins toward another successful season after they went 22-19 (16-4 SLIAC) in 2022. Fontbonne won the SLIAC Conference and Tournament Championship for the first time since 2015 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

"I'm honored to be able to lead this team of women to continue the fantastic culture and teamwork Fontbonne softball is known for," said Knittig. "In my past four years working with the organization, we've grown our teams abilities and potential as well as my own coaching skills."

"I know moving forward, we'll be able to take this group of women even further and continue pursuing excellence on and off the field. I hope all our players are as excited as I am to prepare for the season ahead."

Outside of Fontbonne, Knittig helps coach the St. Louis Pirates for the last three seasons.

Knittig was named head coach after Casey Cromwell was appointed the head softball coach at WashU.
