Holdaway Sets Webster Single Season Hits Mark

The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for their final home game of the regular season. The Gorloks defeated the Panthers by a final score of 8-0 (6 inn.) to improve to 18-17 on the season and 12-4 in the SLIAC. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 20-14 on the season and 9-5 in conference play.

The Gorloks came out in the top of the first inning and rallied for two runs to take an early lead. Webster would extend their lead to 3-0 with an RBI double from Katie Croxall in the bottom of the fifth, and then rally for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to solidify their fourth straight win.

Reese Waggoner (7-2) pitched a gem in this one as she allowed four hits while striking out five in her third complete-game shutout of the season.

Webster rallied for 10 hits in the contest. Jaelin Holdaway led the way for Webster as she went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Her second hit of the game was her 62nd of the season making her the Gorloks' all-time single-season hits leader. She breaks the previous mark of 61 hits by Katie Croxall set last season.

In addition to Holdaway, Kaley Adzick went 2-for-2 with two RBI, Paige Thomas went 1-for-4 with three RBI, and Katie Croxall went 1-for-3 with two RBI. The hit for Thomas extends her hitting streak to 21 straight games.

The Gorloks will return to the diamond on Sunday, May 7th when they travel to St. Ann, Missouri to take on the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins for their final SLIAC doubleheader of the regular season. The first game is set to start at noon with the second game to follow at ABC Ballpark.
