SLIAC Tournament At A Glance  - 2023 SLIAC Softball Tournament Page    

The 2023 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament returns this week with the quarterfinal round starting on Tuesday. The tournament will then move to the Louisville Sports Complex in Peoria, Illinois for the semifinal round and championship later in the week. 

Admission for a single-day pass is $10 for adults or $15 for a tournament pass. The semifinal games as well as the championship game with be broadcast live with College Casts.

A Look at the Golden Eagles

For the first time in program history, Spalding will be the top seed in the SLIAC tournament. The Golden Eagles recorded their best-ever SLIAC record, dropping just three games this season; although they split each of their final two doubleheader series. 

They come in with a strong offense that is averaging 6.6 runs per game while hitting .316 as a team. They lead the conference in home runs, triples, walks, and stolen bases. Bella Velez is 5th in the league hitting with a .419 average and leads the team with 8 home runs and 45 RBI. Grayce Marcum is one of the league's more exciting players, hitting .397 with a SLIAC record 11 triples this season to go along with her 17 steals. Jessica Tucker is another speed threat, leading the league with 21 stolen bases, while hitting .373 and driving in 28.

The pitching staff is 3rd with a 3.22 earned-run average. Michaela Ferman has thrown 103 innings this year, holding a 2.51 earned-run average and tallying 96 strikeouts. Velez and Erica McMann will be more options in the circle.

A Look at the Griffins

The Griffins locked up a first-round bye after a doubleheader split in the regular season finale on Sunday. They are hitting .297 as a team, averaging 4.4 runs per game. The Griffins rank 2nd in team E.R.A. with a 2.98 mark and have recorded four shutouts.

Ashley Carrow leads the team with a .388 average, recording 10 doubles in her 47 hits this season. She also leads the team with 28 RBI and has hit the only two Griffin home runs this spring. Allysa Ibarra is batting .343 with 11 RBI while Mackenzie Howell is hitting .339 and tied for the team lead with 11 stolen bases. Lilly Jones also has 11 swipes and scored 21 times while Grace Paez is hitting .315 with 26 RBI.

Hailey Kutz has tossed a team-high 94.1 innings, recording 112 strikeouts. Kami Matthews is second on the team with her 15 appearances, holding a 2.28 earned-run average. A pair of sophomores, Sam Foppe and Abby Alonzo provide additional innings.

A Look at the Gorloks

Webster comes in winning three of their last four games. The Gorloks are hitting a league-best .357 as a team; ranking 3rd in home runs (12) and 1st in both doubles (86) and total bases (524). They are averaging 6.7 runs per game and have swiped 24 bases this spring.

The offense features four players hitting over .400 this spring with Jaelin Holdaway leading the way. The junior has a Gorlok record 63 hits this season, with 16 of those doubles. Paige Thomas is batting .421 with a team-high 4 home runs and 36 RBI while Kaley Adzick (.419) and Katie Croxall (.411) have combined for 76 runs scored. Adzick has had just as much success in the circle, where she has thrown a team-high 79.2 innings. Reese Waggoner leads the team with 48 strikeouts while Ainsley Hinz gives the Gorloks a third pitching option.

A Look at the Red Devils

The Red Devils are hitting .255 as a team and average 3.3 runs per game. Their pitching staff has a 5.88 earned-run average.

KayLee Hohlbauch and Gada Bryant are the team's top-average hitters with both hitting over .300 this season. Holhlbauch is tied for the team lead with 18 RBI while Bryant leads the team with 16 stolen bases. Bria Wessel is hitting .296 with a team-best 6 home runs and 18 RBI. 

Claire Wuethrich has thrown a team-high 93.1 innings this year, recording 49 strikeouts and a 4.80 earned-run average. She is just one of five freshmen that have seen innings in the circle for the Red Devils this spring.

A Look at the Panthers

Greenville brings the league's top pitching staff into the tournament, holding a 2.41 earned-run average while recording 9 shutouts this spring. Alison Klaus has tossed a league-high 122.1 innings this season, going 13-5 with 131 strikeouts. Melissa Bernal and Andrea Roberts will follow Klaus up in the circle. 

Offensively the lineup is bolstered by Mia Boyd. The Panthers are hitting .307 as a team, averaging 5.4 runs per game. Boyd leads the SLIAC with a .491 average and 9 home runs and is second in RBI with 40. Outside of Boyd, the Panthers have Madi Case, Jaclyn Belzer, and Desirae Yost to clean up the runners. Case is hitting .356 with 16 RBI while Belzer is batting .355 with 23 RBI and Yost is at .324 with 23 RBI. Case also leads the team with 13 stolen bases.

A Look at the Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are hitting .248 as a team, averaging 2.2 runs per game this season. They have hit 4 home runs and stolen 21 bases while their pitching staff maintains a 10.22 earned-run average. 

Haylee Chandler leads the team with a .409 average and is tied for the team lead with 12 RBI. She also leads the team with 6 doubles and a .439 on-base percentage. Emily Esquivel is hitting .375 with 4 doubles and 2 triples, scoring a team-high 18 runs. Raegen Dickinson has three of the team's four home runs, driving in 12 total this spring. Haley Miller has been the winning pitcher three times this season, totaling 102.1 innings and 63 strikeouts.
