Beers Becomes Fontbonne Shutout Leader

The Fontbonne University women's soccer team continued its record-setting season after a 3-0 win over Greenville. The 12 conference wins are a program record, they stayed unbeaten in SLIAC play for the second straight season, and Mary Beers earned her 22nd career shutout becoming the all-time leader.

Game Breakdown

In the first half, the Griffins looked as if they took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute, but its goal was waved off due to offsides. Both teams totaled four shots, though neither could break the tie and it remained a 0-0 contest at the break.

The second half belonged to Fontbonne. In the 55th minute, the Griffins got on the board when Kierstyn Weaver's free-kick attempt was saved by Grace Gehner, however, Gehner couldn't control the rebound allowing Caroline Neal to come in and score her 10th on the season.

In the 63rd minute, the Griffins struck again with Krystal Kohenskey dribbling the ball upfield and her cross into the box found Molly Kovarik who scored her 18th on the season giving Fontbonne a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Fontbonne put the game away in the 66th minute when Katie Leeker stole the ball from the Panthers' defense, sent a through ball for Kovarik, and the Festus, Mo., native, did the rest tipping her shot past Gehner for her 19th on the year.

The Griffins remained in control the rest of the way with a 5-0 shot advantage as they cruised to its third straight shutout win.
