Beers Sets SLIAC Record

Beers Sets SLIAC Record

Fontbonne University goalkeeper Mary Beers added to her record-setting career on Thursday night when she broke the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer record for consecutive scoreless minutes. Beers, a senior, recorded her 8th consecutive shutout, which partnered with 85-minutes of scoreless action against Washington University-St. Louis gives her 805:28 consecutive scoreless minutes.

Beers picked up the record in a 2-0 win over Spalding University, making two saves in the contest. The last goal Beers allowed was in the September 5th game against WashU. Meanwhile, the shutout win for the Griffins is their 9th consecutive, setting a new conference record for shutouts.

Beers is now 9-1-2 on the season with nine shutouts and 28 saves and a 0.50 goals-against average. She is already the conference leader in career shutouts with 32 and tied for first in career wins with 44. Her career goals-against average of 0.73 would be good for the top ten in conference history as well.

The previous conference record for consecutive shutouts was eight, set by Webster University in 2001 while the previous scoreless minutes' mark was held by Jessica Davis of Webster in the 2012 season.

Fontbonne is currently 9-1-2 overall this season and 9-0 in SLIAC play. They have won their last 20 regular season conference games and are undefeated in 26 straight regular season SLIAC contests. The Griffins are back in action on Saturday against Greenville University at 3 p.m.
