Banfield Breaks Gorlok Shutout Mark

The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this evening when they played host to the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Red Devils by a final score of 10-0 to improve to 10-6-1 on the season and 7-3-1 in conference play. With the loss, the Red Devils fall to 3-10 on the season and 2-9 in SLIAC play.

Webster outshot Eureka 35-0 in the contest and put 23 shots on target. They accumulated nine corner kicks in the game while the Red Devils did not record any.

The Gorloks scored early and often in the first half as they scored eight goals in the first 45 minutes of action. Webster picked up two goals from Jordan Lande (12), two goals from Abbey Poe (6), a goal from Isabella Dickneite (1), a goal from Grace Rodgers (10), a goal from Tori Dobbins (1), and an own goal in the half. Mackenzie Sundhausen and Grace Rodgers each had two assists in the half while Reyce RellerAbbey Poe, and Kelly Bowen each recorded one.

Webster carried over their momentum into the second half and scored two more times early in the period. The Gorloks picked up a second own goal from the Red Devils in the 52nd minute and then Jordan Lande finished off her hat trick in the 68th minute to solidify the win.

Taryn Banfield was in goal tonight for the Gorloks as she did not record a save in her 31st career solo shutout. Her 31st shutout is a new program record as she passed Jessica Davis for the most solo shutouts in Gorlok history.

The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Saturday, October 22nd when they travel to Elsah, Illinois, to take on the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m.
