Sharp Named Field Athlete of the Meet
The women's track and field team finished as the third-place team at the NCCAA indoor national championships on Friday and Saturday with national championships from Cayden Sharp in the 60-meter hurdles and pentathlon.
Sharp finished on top in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.93 in the finals for the national championship. Sharp was also the national champion in the pentathlon with a performance of 3446 points.
In addition, Sharp recorded a third-place performance in the long jump with an attempt of 18 feet-0.25 inches.
In the triple jump, Sharp and Sara Yakano placed second and third. Sharp posted a distance of 36-9.75, and Yakano was less than an inch behind at 36-9.
At the conclusion of the meet, Sharp was selected as the field athlete of the meet.
The Greenville 4x800 meter relay brought home a silver medal, posting a time of 10:21.79. Olivia Mansfield, Norah Swinigan, Vanessa Compton, and Brooklyn McKee contributed segments of the relay.
The 4x200-meter relay finished third. It included Cheyenne Bradshaw, Laila Graham, Jocelyn Fritz, and Madi Pierce. They finished in 1:49.46.
In the shot put, Tawny Rodriguez added a third-place mark of 41-8.5.
The Panthers will return to action at Illinois College on Saturday.
